About Me

womannew3.jpg

Welcome! My name is Sleepygirl. (Okay, it isn’t really, but you know how it goes.) I am a woman who is many things. I’m a chronic insomniac, a bookworm, an amateur photographer, a politics junkie, a Japanese horror movie addict, a curious questioner, a passionate bleeding heart liberal, a university student, a Bleach fanatic, a daydreamer, a pessimist, an idealist, a back pain sufferer, a music lover, a former “good girl” living in sin, a bad driver, a beading enthusiast, an online shopping addict, a TV snob, a pizza junkie, the world’s greatest auntie, and an animal lover. This blog is my outlet for all the things that make me the somewhat unusual person that I am.

I will also be blogging about my ongoing struggle with Major Depression and Dysthymic Disorder, and the effect that mental illness (and its treatment) has on my every day life.

I have struggled with depression ever since I was a child. Chronic Depression (Dysthymia) has been a major part of my life ever since adolescence, but I have also experienced Major Depression, a more serious condition. During different periods of my life, I have been struck down with a major depressive episode, lasting anywhere between a month to a few years. During these times, it is difficult for me to function and live a normal life, and it can be incredibly disruptive and damaging.

My latest major depressive episode started during the fall of 2008, and it’s still going on now. It has been hard finding the right treatment, but I am fortunate to be under the care of two very talented doctors: my primary care physician and a wonderful psychiatrist. I am also lucky to have the support of my family, my amazing boyfriend, and the many friends I have found online. I know that I am not going through this alone.

Every day is a challenge, and sometimes it can be extremely hard to make my pain public, but I hope that someone reading this blog can find some encouragement or inspiration that can have a positive effect on their own life.

I welcome all comments, as long as they are respectful. But if I feel that you’re rude and/or annoying, I reserve the right to delete your comments.

You’re so awesome! You guys need to move down South. There are plenty of charming little places to live…plus Benjamin!

We’re dying to move, but it costs so much! Our neighbors are very, very, very, very loud and they’re driving us crazy. When are you guys gonna move out of that ghetto neighborhood?

NOT SOON ENOUGH. We are getting a decent tax refund, so that will help. Then again, in order to move, we would have to agree on a house to move too. Oh well, I guess it is the ghetto for us…

Sorry to bug you about this here, but how did you get your widgets back?! (I saw your post on the support forum, but there doesn’t seem to be a resolution… Do you have some kind of magic trick?

Hi, amesser. This isn’t the blog I’ve been having trouble with. I’m having trouble with my book blog, Crescent Moon Book Reviews. I had to go back to my old theme, Hemingway. Hemingway doesn’t use widgets, it has a preset bottom bar, so there was no way to go back and erase all my widgets. I’m waiting to hear back from Support about this issue…it’s been about 3 weeks now. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the reply! I’m so disappointed to see how slow the responses from wordpress are for this issue– but then, it’s the first time I’ve run into a problem. Cheers!

Hi,

I’m glad that I came across your blog. You have some very useful and interesting posts there. I will put a link to your blog from my site, if this is okay with you.

I help run a store called HiSunglasses.com; it’s not really a big one, but it’s getting there. Please have a look. If you could possibly place a small link of my site, that would be really great.

Have a great day and hope to hear from you.

Happy blogging.
